Minecraft’s Exciting First Update of 2025
Minecraft has kicked off 2025 with a feature-packed update, now available for public testing. While the full update doesn’t have an official release date yet, players can already try out the new additions in Java Snapshots and Bedrock Preview. This update introduces six gameplay features, ranging from biome-specific pig variants to immersive forest improvements.
What’s New in Minecraft’s 2025 Update?
New Pig Variants: Cold & Warm Pigs
Two new pig types are coming to Minecraft, each adapted to different biomes:
- Cold Pig: A furry pig that thrives in cold biomes like snowy tundras.
- Warm Pig: A desert-dwelling pig that prefers hot biomes such as sandy dunes.
These pigs bring more diversity to the game’s ecosystem, adding a biome-specific touch to Minecraft’s animal life.
Enhanced Forest Ambience
Minecraft’s forests will feel more alive with the following additions:
- Falling Leaves: Leaves will now drop particles from trees, making forests more dynamic.
- Leaf Litter: A new ground cover that makes a rustling sound when walked on. It adds realism and can be used as decoration.
- Wildflowers: Found in meadows and birch forests, these flowers can be crafted into dyes. They have multiple growth stages, which can be accelerated with bonemeal.
Lodestone Recipe Improvement
A simpler crafting recipe for the lodestone has been introduced, making navigation in the Overworld, Nether, and End easier than ever. Instead of rare materials, players now just need to combine an iron ingot with chiseled bricks to craft one.
Bedrock Update 1.21.60: What’s Included?
On February 11, 2025, a significant Bedrock update (1.21.60) was released, implementing some of the new features alongside bug fixes and gameplay improvements. The update includes:
- The new pig variants (Cold and Warm pigs).
- Falling leaves and leaf litter, improving the visual quality of forests.
- General bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
However, not all features from the update are in Bedrock yet. Wildflowers and the lodestone recipe update are still in testing and will be added in a future patch.
How to Test the New Features
Players can access these new features through:
- Java Edition: By enabling Snapshops in the launcher.
- Bedrock Edition: By enabling Previews/Beta in the game settings.
This allows players to experience upcoming changes before they officially launch.
Final Thoughts
Minecraft’s first update of 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting one, bringing more immersive environments and better navigation tools. With new mobs, improved biomes, and quality-of-life enhancements, players can look forward to a fresh survival experience.
