Super Mario Takes the Spotlight

The Direct opened with a major reveal: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, hitting theaters in April 2026. This film shifts the beloved series’ cinematic journey into a cosmic setting, following Mario’s adventures beyond the Mushroom Kingdom.

Alongside the movie, Nintendo announced remasters of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Nintendo Switch. These upgraded editions bring enhanced visuals, improved Joy-Con support, and brand-new bonus levels, ensuring veterans and newcomers alike have reasons to revisit the galaxies.

Sports and RPG Surprises

The sports lineup made headlines with Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 exclusive featuring vibrant new courts, expanded rosters, and competitive online tournaments. On the RPG front, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave stood out as one of the showcase’s most ambitious titles. With gladiatorial combat and a branching narrative, it promises to push tactical storytelling into bold new territory.

RPG fans were further spoiled with Dragon Quest I & II HD Remake and a full Dragon Quest VII Remake, strengthening Square Enix’s bond with Nintendo players. To round things out, Disgaea 7 Complete and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. expanded the Switch 2 catalog with tactical strategy and fighting action.

Platformers, Puzzles, and Horror Thrills

Nintendo also highlighted variety for every type of gamer. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book brings a charming, storybook-inspired platforming adventure packed with puzzles and exploration. For horror fans, chills are guaranteed with Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake and Little Nightmares 3, both promising atmospheric dread on Switch 2.

Pokémon, Simulations, and Family Fun

Pokémon enthusiasts were treated to two big surprises. Pokémon Pokopia introduces an all-new spinoff with adventurous mechanics, while Pokémon Legends Z-A delivers a massive update with Mega Evolutions for Raichu, Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja.

The Direct also welcomed quirky simulations and family titles. Two Point Museum offers creative management gameplay, while Lego Voyagers embraces co-op fun for players of all ages.

Major Franchise Headlines

One of the most discussed moments of the Direct was Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game debuted open-world exploration and futuristic motorbike segments, setting high expectations for 2026.

Capcom followed with a bold move, confirming Resident Evil Requiem, alongside Resident Evil 7 and Village, all releasing for Switch 2 next year. Meanwhile, EA Sports FC26 highlighted improved visuals and online performance on Nintendo’s new hardware.
